Vilau participates in the Project Furia´s pioneer tests on DVB-H technology
Vilau is one of the companies and bodies representing the audiovisual and telecommunications sector that form the Project Furia (Future Integrated Audiovisual Network). The objective of this project is to analyse and evaluate the emerging technologies for audiovisual transmission: transmission of multimedia content for mobiles (DVB-H, IP-DATACAST, DVB-SSP) and the second generation of Digital Terrestrial Television standards (DVB-T2).
During the last week of June, Vilau engineers took part in the pioneer tests for digital transmission to mobiles which were carried out at the headquarters of the EITB group in Iurreta (Vizcaya). Their main task was to integrate the hardware and software required for the tests to go ahead correctly.
Over five days a team made up of thirty engineers and researchers belonging to the project worked on measuring the quality of the digital television broadcast to mobiles using DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld) technology, which enables digital television and radio to be enjoyed on portable and mobile devices.
These tests have been instrumental in defining the quality requirements for broadcasting digital television to mobiles and also to validate some of the theoretical developments carried out by the project partners, as well as testing the real performance of the equipment developed by project partners and compiling information.
Apart from Vilau, the following entities also take part in Project Furia: Abertis Telecom (project co-ordinator), Hispasat, Telefónica R&D, La Salle University, Mier Communications, SIDSA, A.I.C.I.A., Astra, Communi.tv, Dominion, Egatel, EITB, Fagor, i2CAT Foundation, Integrasys, iTeam (Polytechnic University of Valencia), Moviquity, Robotiker Tecnalia, Televés, Tredes, University of Mondragón, University of Valladolid, Polytechnic University of Madrid and VICOMTech.
Project Furia comes within the Avanza Plan, promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce to boost the development of the Information Society.
